CONSTRUCTION AND CONTRACTING

Won the work? Fund the gap before you get paid.

Civil, trades, mining services and government contracts often mean weeks of costs before the first payment. We look at the contract, the claim cycle and your gear, then structure funding to fit.

SOUND FAMILIAR?

The job pays. Just not yet.

Month one: all costs, no income.

Mobilisation, fuel and wages before the first claim.

Claim certified. Still not paid.

Approved claims can be weeks from your account.

The gear has to be on site first.

Machines and trucks before the work pays.

Christmas stops the clock.

In Queensland, 22 December to 10 January are not business days.

Plenty of lenders won’t touch construction.

Many lenders exclude progress claims or builders. Others work with them every day.

Retentions sit with someone else.

Retentions are usually held until practical completion and the defects period, and most lenders won’t fund them.

WHAT IT CAN LOOK LIKE

A new package and an empty first month

Illustrative scenario

A contractor wins a package that needs extra plant, a bigger crew and fuel for a month before the first claim. Rather than using the family home as security, the owner talks through equipment finance for the machines and a working capital facility against the contract. Illustrative example only, not a real client. Every business is assessed on its own circumstances and lender criteria.

QUESTIONS

Common questions

Can you fund against progress claims?

Some lenders can. It depends on the contract, your client and your history. Your broker explains what is likely and what it may cost.

What about the Christmas shutdown?

In Queensland, 22 December to 10 January are not business days under the BIF Act, so payment timing can stretch. See our Queensland Christmas cut-off page.

Do I need to use my house as security?

Not always. Some lenders will look at equipment equity, contracts or invoices instead. It depends on your business and the amount.

Can you help with property development finance?

Yes. Lenders usually want total development cost, gross realisation value (GRV), your equity, feasibility and QS reports, DA status and any presales. See our property development page.

Does it matter if the work is residential or commercial?

It can. Some lenders only fund claims on commercial work, and residential work can narrow the options.

What does it cost and how do you get paid?

Costs depend on the lender, the product and your business. Your broker explains every fee and cost before you decide. We may be paid a commission by the lender or charge a fee, and we tell you before you apply. Subject to lender approval; fees and terms apply.

Tell us what’s going on.

A short call is usually enough to see whether funding could help now, and how it could be set up for what comes next. No obligation. Business purposes only. Subject to lender approval; fees and terms apply.
